スカからエモへなのか、エモにスカと取り入れたのか、ここへきてクロスオーバーなサウンドも注目を浴びるようになってきたのも必然だったような…。このSkatune Networkが、Skaを取り入れたEMOバンドなどの曲をカバーして、数年前からYoutubeで配信しているのが話題となっていた。Jeremy Hunterというトロンバーンをメインに演奏する彼のソロプロジェクトらしい。彼の発想から生まれたであろう、エモやパンクなどのポップなバンドのカバーをスカアレンジで紹介するという形で活動している。今回のアルバムの中には、My Chemical Romance、Weezer、American Footballなどのカバー曲で入っているので、オリジナルを知っている人も多いと思うので、かなり楽しめる内容。
30年ぐらい前には、パンク（メロコア）と2 Toneのスカを取り入れたスカコアというジャンルが新たにに生まれたが、現在より多くの音楽が細分化されているので、シーンを起こすまでになるかはこれからですかね。もともと、2 Toneのスカは70年代の英国パンクの影響で生まれたらしいので、音楽は時代を超えて巡っている。
