JoshuaのDanとSeamの2人で、現在活動しているユニット"Spoils Systems"のファーストアルバム「Smoke Signals」がPohgohのKeithが運営するNew Granada Recordsから昨年リリースされた。このSpoils Systemは、長年、Danがエンジニアとして活動をしている中で音を追求し様々な音楽スタイルから生まれて、進化したインディーロックの流れを含む彼のセンスが光る楽曲が詰まったアルバム。Joshuaとはまた違ったアプローチが、かなり多様性があり、Electronic～New Waveの流れを感じさせる。
アルバムのミックスは、長年音楽活動を共にしているJ・ロビンスが殆どの曲を手掛けている。また、部分的に元DEATH CAB FOR CUTIEのChirs Wallaが手掛けていることもあって、長年シーンを支えてきた両者が認めたアルバムでもある。J・ロビンスと共に活動をしていた、CHANNELSのJanet Morganをフィーチャーした「Identify」は、彼女の力強いボーカルとメロディーは、ロックな曲に仕上がっている。
アルバム全体から、時間と共に作り上げたDanとSeanの現在進行系の音になっている。
